Nourished Mind Psychiatry Blog

Welcome to Nourished Mind Psychiatry

I’m so glad you’re here.

My name is Emily Johnson, and I’m an Integrative Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I created Nourished Mind Psychiatry because I believe mental health care should be compassionate, collaborative, and deeply rooted in the whole person - not just a list of symptoms.

Why “Nourished Mind”?

Our brains do not exist in isolation. Mental health is profoundly influenced by nutrition, lifestyle, environment, biology, and lived experience. Yet for so long, mental health care has often overlooked these foundations.

At Nourished Mind Psychiatry, I take an integrative approach to treatment. This means I consider:

  • Brain chemistry and nutritional status

  • Medication and lifestyle supports

  • Evidence-based psychiatry and functional, whole-person care

Medication can be life-changing and essential - but it is rarely the entire story. When we nourish the brain and body together, we create a stronger foundation for healing, resilience, and long-term wellbeing.

The Role of Nutrition in Mental Health

Nutrition plays a critical role in mental health. Deficiencies in key nutrients can contribute to symptoms such as:

  • Low mood or depression

  • Anxiety and irritability

  • Brain fog and poor concentration

  • Fatigue and low motivation

  • Worsening ADHD or mood symptoms

Food is information for the brain. Through a nutritional psychiatry lens, we can support neurotransmitter function, reduce inflammation, stabilize blood sugar, and improve overall brain health.

This blog is one way I aim to empower you with that knowledge.

What You’ll Find Here

This blog is designed to be educational, practical, and approachable - whether you’re a patient, a clinician, or simply someone curious about mental health and wellness.

You can expect content on:

  • Psychoeducation about mental health diagnoses (ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, and more)

  • Integrative psychiatry concepts explained in plain language

  • Nutrition education and how food impacts mental health

  • Specific nutrient deep-dives (iron, magnesium, omega-3s, B vitamins, amino acids, and more)

  • Simple, brain-supportive recipes and meal ideas

  • Lifestyle strategies that support nervous system regulation and emotional wellbeing

My goal is to help you better understand why you feel the way you do - and what tools may support your healing.

A Collaborative, Compassionate Space

Mental health is not one-size-fits-all. Your biology, history, stressors, and strengths matter. Whether you’re navigating a diagnosis, exploring integrative care, or just trying to feel better in your body and mind, you deserve information that respects your autonomy and empowers informed choices.

This space is not about perfection - it’s about progress, curiosity, and nourishment.

Thank you for being here. I’m honored to walk alongside you.
