Emily Johnson
MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC, PRCFMP
As an ANCC Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I take an integrative, individualized approach to mental health care. I believe in treating the whole person—not just the diagnosis—and work collaboratively with each patient to develop a care plan that reflects their unique needs, goals, and experiences.
Building strong therapeutic relationships is at the heart of my practice. I prioritize creating a safe, supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and genuinely understood. I view healing as a partnership and believe in empowering patients through shared decision-making, open communication, and personalized care.
My approach blends psychotherapy with medication management to provide well-rounded support. While medications can be an important part of treatment, I integrate talk therapy to address root causes, emotional patterns, and lifestyle factors that impact mental health. This balanced model allows for a more comprehensive and sustainable path to wellness.
One of my greatest passions is supporting mental health through nutrition. I believe that food plays a critical role in mood, cognition, and overall well-being. I work with patients to create realistic, individualized nutrition plans that promote better mental and physical health. Whether it’s optimizing nutrient intake, supporting gut health, or fostering mindful eating, I view nutrition as a powerful extension of mental health care.
Education is also a cornerstone of my practice. I take time to ensure my patients understand their diagnoses, treatment options, and the reasoning behind care decisions. My goal is to help each person feel informed and empowered to take an active role in their healing journey.
I draw on evidence-based practices, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness strategies, and trauma-informed care, all tailored to each patient’s unique needs. My mission is to support people in finding resilience, balance, and lasting well-being—beyond symptom relief.
Services
-
A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation is an in-depth visit designed to understand your whole story—mind, body, and lifestyle. Together, we explore your symptoms, history, strengths, stressors, nutrition, sleep, medical background, and personal goals. This allows us to create a clear diagnosis and a holistic, personalized plan that supports your mental health from every angle.
-
Medication can be a powerful tool when used intentionally and collaboratively. I provide thoughtful, evidence-based medication management that centers your preferences, monitors your progress closely, and adjusts treatment as your needs change. My approach is gentle, patient-centered, and focused on helping you feel stable, empowered, and supported—not overmedicated.
-
Psychotherapy offers a supportive, collaborative space to explore your emotions, patterns, and experiences with compassion and clarity. My approach blends evidence-based modalities—such as CBT, mindfulness-based strategies, and trauma-informed care—with an integrative focus on the mind-body connection. Together, we work toward improving insight, building coping skills, strengthening emotional resilience, and creating meaningful, sustainable change in your daily life.
-
Nutrition plays a meaningful role in mood, energy, focus, and emotional resilience. Using principles of nutritional psychiatry, we explore how specific foods, nutrients, and eating patterns can support your mental health. Together, we build sustainable strategies—such as targeted nutrients, anti-inflammatory patterns, and microbiome-friendly choices—to help nourish your brain and body.
-
Integrative and functional medicine looks beyond symptoms to uncover root causes. This approach blends traditional psychiatric care with evidence-based nutrition, lifestyle medicine, mind-body interventions, and targeted supplements. We consider hormones, gut health, inflammation, environment, stress physiology, and genetics to create a truly individualized plan for long-term healing.
-
Laboratory testing can offer valuable insight into mood, energy, hormonal balance, nutrient levels, inflammation, and overall health. I order labs when clinically appropriate and explain your results in a clear, understandable way. Together, we use the data to guide treatment decisions that support both your mental and physical well-being.
-
Pharmacogenetic testing examines how your DNA may influence medication response. This simple cheek-swab test can help identify which medications may work best for you—and which may cause side effects—based on your genetic profile. While not a standalone solution, it is a helpful tool that guides safer, more precise, and personalized medication planning.
-
Your gut health plays a critical role in mood, inflammation, nutrient absorption, and overall wellness. Genova stool testing provides a detailed look at your microbiome, digestive function, inflammation markers, and potential imbalances. I interpret these results with you and integrate them into a whole-person plan that supports both mental health and digestive well-being.
